Portrait of Dr. Stephanie Miodus, a Licensed Psychologist specializing in autism evaluations, child psychology, and evidence-based care in NYC.

Hello

I am a licensed psychologist specializing in assessments for autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and other developmental needs. I take a client-centered approach to help children, adolescents, and adults understand their unique strengths, overcome challenges, and access the support they need. In addition, I offer gifted testing, assessments for independent school admissions, evaluations for selective mutism, and pre-adoption assessments. Beyond evaluation services, I provide therapy for children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I also offer parent and nanny coaching, social skills groups, executive function coaching, and consultation services.

My Story

My name is Dr. Stephanie Miodus, and I provide comprehensive psychological assessment and therapy services for children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I also offer autism and ADHD evaluations for adults of all ages. I specialize in autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, dyslexia, giftedness, and intellectual disabilities. My practice takes a strength-based approach that empowers individuals through personalized evaluations and evidence-based interventions, including therapy, social skills groups, and parent coaching.

As a licensed psychologist in New York and Pennsylvania, I bring extensive expertise in developmental disabilities, autism, adoption, and trauma-related disorders. I earned my Ph.D. in School Psychology from Temple University, where I was awarded a University Fellowship, and hold credentials as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) and a National Register Health Service Psychologist (HSP). Prior to this, I earned my M.Ed. in School Psychology from Temple University, an M.A. in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. My certifications include PEERS® for Adolescents and PEERS® for Preschoolers social skills groups for autistic and other neurodivergent youth from the UCLA PEERS® Clinic and Certified Level 1 in the Resilience Builder Program® (Alvord, Zucker & Grados, 2011).

My training includes two years at New Alternatives for Children (NAC) for my pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship. There, I specialized in evaluations and interventions for children with developmental disabilities and medical complexities and worked with adoptees and youth involved in the child welfare system. During my time at NAC, I provided attachment-based dyadic therapy, individual and family therapy, and supervised psychology externs and interns. I also conducted assessments for autism and other developmental disorders, as well as PTSD and other trauma-related conditions.

Before NAC, I worked at SPIN, Inc., an Autism Center for Excellence in Philadelphia, focusing on autism evaluations, therapy for children with a range of mental health and developmental needs and their families, and social skills groups. Additionally, I implemented the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) at the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute to support young children in developing social, language, and cognitive skills. I also have experience as the lead social skills instructor at the Penn Center for Mental Health.

I have specialized experience in the assessment and treatment of trauma, including through a clinical treatment study at the Rutgers University Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions. I also trained in psychoeducational and neuropsychological testing at Temple University's Clinic, conducting assessments for autism, ADHD, giftedness/twice exceptionality, and learning disabilities. My clinical experience also extends to school settings, providing assessments and consultations, including at the Widener Memorial School for children with multiple disabilities. Additionally, I have worked in forensic settings through my role at Friends of Island Academy, as part of the Pinkerton Graduate Community Fellowship.

I have been actively involved in local, state, and national psychology leadership, including serving as the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 46 Convention Program Co-Chair and APA Division 1 Convention Program Chair, among other roles, such as serving on the APAGS Advocacy Coordinating Team. In 2021, I was appointed to the Technology Pillar for the APA Summit on the Future of Education and Practice. I have been honored to receive several awards, including the APA Division 1 Presidential Trio Award and the APA Division 46 Presidential Citation.

My academic contributions include publishing peer-reviewed research on the intersection of ADHD and trauma and authoring book chapters on topics including autism and the intersection of mental health and technology. I have presented at national and international conferences on subjects such as autism, trauma, supports for students with disabilities, and mental health content on social media.

These experiences inform and shape my clinical practice. By combining my background in research, assessment, and intervention, I strive to provide individualized, evidence-based care that meets the unique needs of each individual and family I work with. Whether you are seeking an evaluation, therapy, or support navigating developmental or mental health challenges, I am here to help guide you through the process. I invite families and individuals to reach out to learn how my services can support their goals and well-being.
